Haiti – Murder. – Assassination of Eric Jean Baptiste, Defender International condemns this heinous crime and demands the opening of a judicial investigation…

Miami, Florida November 1, 2022. – Defender International, an international non-governmental organization working in the field of human rights in the world is in shock following the assassination of the former candidate for the presidency of Haiti and leader of Political Party, Eric Jean Baptiste.

The secretary general of the Rally of National Progressive Democrats (RDNP) was killed this Friday, October 28, 2022 in the evening as he returned home after a meeting with other political leaders. Defender International strongly condemns this heinous crime against someone who was a patriot, a moderate politician and committed to change in his country.

The brutal assassination of Éric Jean Baptiste and his driver, in Laboule 12, a suburb of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, is the direct consequence of the impunity that prevails in the country and the serious political crisis that has persisted in Haiti since the assassination of former President Jovenel MOISE.

While denouncing the numerous cases of assassination and murder of a political nature in the country which is the subject of the daily life of the Haitian people, Defender International demands the opening of a judicial investigation into this crime and the prosecution of its author.

Defender International believes it is imperative that the circumstances surrounding the death of the RDNP leader be clarified without delay and the perpetrators of this assassination be arrested and brought to justice. The same goes for the other serious crimes recently committed in the country, in particular the assassination of Gary Tess, a journalist from radio Lebon, who was found dead in the town of Les Cayes (SUD) on 24 October, the attempted murder in which narrowly escaped the well-known journalist, Roberson Alphonse and the assassination of 5 unidentified individuals whose bodies were found, this October 29, 2022 near the international school “Union School”, located in Juvénat, a locality of the municipality of Pétion-Ville.
